About Our Chrysler Distributors

A distributor is a key component of the ignition system, responsible for routing high-voltage electricity from the ignition coil to each spark plug at the correct time. This precise timing is critical for proper combustion, directly affecting engine performance, efficiency, and reliability.

Chrysler distributors are commonly used in a wide range of Mopar engines, including small block platforms such as the 273, 318, 340, and 360, as well as big block engines like the 383, 400, 426 HEMI, and 440. These engines rely on accurate ignition timing and consistent spark delivery to produce strong power and smooth operation.

Upgrading to a high-performance distributor can provide stronger spark output, improved timing accuracy, and enhanced durability. Many modern HEI (High Energy Ignition) distributors feature built-in ignition modules and coils, simplifying installation with a one-wire hookup while delivering high-voltage output—often around 50,000–65,000 volts—for improved combustion and throttle response.

Performance distributors often include adjustable mechanical and vacuum advance systems, allowing fine-tuning of ignition timing to match engine modifications and driving conditions. This helps maximize horsepower while maintaining drivability and fuel efficiency.

For Chrysler, Dodge, and Plymouth applications, distributors are especially important in classic muscle cars and performance builds where reliable spark and accurate timing are critical. Whether you're restoring a vintage Mopar engine or upgrading for performance, choosing the right distributor helps ensure proper ignition timing, improved engine performance, and dependable operation.
